Art from the Spokes is a partnership involving Back-2-Bikes, Stafford Borough Council's Local Agenda 21 team, Culturegen and Stafford College. By creating art and craft pieces from surplus bike bits the project aims to provide useful training and work experience for a range of groups, help reduce waste going to landfill and provide additional income for Back-2-Bikes.
Art from the Spokes' first major project has been to design and create a dragon from unwanted bits of bikes. This was used as part of the St George's Day celebrations and in other Stafford 800 celebratory events too.
The Art from the Spokes is also in the process of designing a series of smaller art/ craft pieces from unwanted bike bits such as windchimes, garden tables and chairs, key rings, weather vanes and Penny Farthing models. These will be made by volunteers and sold to raise funds for the Bicycle Recycling Project and the Back-2-Bikes workshop.
Art from the Spokes also intends to construct a series of public art sculptures to be placed along local cycle routes.
