Stafford Borough have commissioned specialist consultants to produce a Green Infrastructure Strategy.
Green Infrastructure is defined as:
'the network of green spaces and natural elements that intersperse and connect our cities, towns and villages. It is the open spaces, waterways, gardens, woodlands, green corridors, wildlife habitats, street trees, natural heritage and open countryside.'
Green Infrastructure has many components, as illustrated below

The Green Infrastructure Strategy will consider the green infrastructure issues, opportunities and threats in the Borough, identifying the range of assets that are present and where there are gaps or areas of need. It will also consider the potential impact of growth and built development both on the environment and on communities, and identify the range of needs and opportunities that may be addressed through green infrastructure interventions.
The Green Infrastructure Strategy has now been completed and can be viewed below:
It is anticipated that any policy recommendations will be taken forward into the Core Strategy - The Plan for Stafford Borough and the detailed actions and information will be taken forward in a Green Infrastructure Supplementary Planning Document (SPD), expected to commence towards the end of 2010.
