Council Tax - How To Pay

You can request your bill is issued as 10 or 12 monthly instalments.

Details of how to pay are shown on your Council Tax Bill.

The Civic Centre does not offer a cash receipting service, please make your payment using one of the other methods detailed below.


By Direct Debit

Direct Debit is recommended to all our customers, as this is the most efficient method of payment.

Instalments are automatically collected from your Bank or Building Society as they fall due so there is no paperwork to bother with once it is set up.

You will always be informed well in advance of your monthly instalments giving you time to query them if necessary.

The Council offers a choice of dates for Direct Debit: 3rd, 4th, 10th, 17th, 20th, 24th or 28th of the month.

Credit And Debit Cards

You can pay either over the Internet using our online payments facility or by telephoning our automated telephone payment line on 01785 619271.

You will need your Account Reference Number, your card details and the amount you wish to pay.

Payments may take up to 2 working days to be credited to your Council Tax account.

There's a minimum transaction amount of £10.00. There's no charge for this service if you're paying by Debit Card or Credit Card


Through your Bank or Building Society

Please quote your Account Reference Number, the Council's Account Number 10841706 Barclays Bank plc, Stafford, Sort Code 20-81-18.

Payments may take up to 10 working days to credit your Council Tax account.


At a Payzone Outlet

A payment card will be needed and may be ordered by calling the Council Tax helpline on 01785 619279 or you can request a card by email, please go to online forms.

These cards allow payment to be made at any Payzone facility.
