MINUTES OF ACTION AT HOME MEETING

HELD ON 29th JANUARY 2002

Welcome and Introductions: Mel Ellis, Roger Oldfield, Sam Pickles, Helen Lloyd-William, Alison Crane, Camilla Lovatt, Marie Proctor,  John Russell, Yvonne Drakeley, Jill Williams

Apologies: Alec Nunn, Lesley Nunn,  Karen Davies, Maggie Setterfield, Jeremy Miln, Paul Newman

Notes of Last Meeting and Matters Arising: It was noted that SP was asked to produce a flier for members asking if anyone is interested in being a local contact for their street or area. Not one for distribution to neighbours.

Draft Info Packs / Tip Sheets: Copies of a draft sheet produced by SamP/RO/ME were distributed to the group.

  • It was decided that the aim should be to produce a series of five double sided sheets, with the aim of distributing one per month to members once they are complete.
  • The group discussed who the sheets are aimed at; existing, new or potential members? It was decided that a different version for each would be best. A slightly different explanation of A@H on the back for new members and just a reminder for existing members. For potential members (a leaflet for dropping through letter boxes or handing out) see item 7.
  • The sheets will be printed on coloured paper rather than card for financial and environmental reasons.
  • Each subject box (water, travel, waste, energy and shopping) to have a distinct theme for each leaflet. E.g. water could be about reducing use in the garden one week and then water pollution the next.
  • Each tip to have a tick box  to make it distinct from the others and for users to tick off actions as they do each tip - a way to measure their own progress. Could this help measure green scores?
  • Each sheet to remind people to make sure they have tried last month's tips.
  • A number of suggestions for items for the back side of each leaflet were made: a part aimed specifically at kids, up coming events, anecdotes, quotes, better contacts, a 'send in your top tips'  or 'best re-use of?' competition.
  • RO/ME/SamP to meet to design leaflets. SamP to produce.

Motto / Slogan: It was decided that a short motto and a longer slogan would be best. It is all about giving the group an identity. SamP to find out if a competition could be run in Sundial for suggestions. Item for next agenda. Ideas please everyone.

Green Scores: It was discussed that the tick box system on the sheets would provide opportunity for people to measure their own progress. Perhaps members could be surveyed before and after they have received the whole series of leaflets, then the results compared to some statistics. SamP to investigate statistics. It was suggested that there must be surveys in existence that would save us starting from scratch. SamP to investigate and pass on any questionnaires found to JS for evaluation. JS to look at old green scores questionnaire and report back. Item for next agenda.

Local Contact Fliers: Leaflets for local contacts to distribute to neighbours will be the same as the first sheet on the front, and provide a description of A@H along with contact details on the back. They will encourage people to receive the rest of the series by getting in touch with their local contact. SamP to find out about data protection for details of any new members gained in this way. Next agenda: What does being the local contact mean?

Events for 2003:

·        School linked evening similar to 'water voles survival kit' to be organised with Flash Lee primary for end of summer term. Main theme should be recycling.

·        Mayor Making 10th May. Can we do a float. Item for next agenda.

Any Other Business:

·        A separate evening to be organised about recycling. Borough and County recycling officers to be invited to clarify some of the group's issues. SamP to organise.

·        SamP to investigate production of envelope re-use stickers.

·        A sustainable Stafford forum was suggested to help co-ordinate the activities of the various groups in the area.

·        Peace march to RAF base from Market Square on 1st March at 1pm.

·        State of the Borough debate on Mon 24th March - look out for details.

·        RO to represent A@H at the Local Strategic Partnership.

Date of Next Meeting: Wednesday 5th March 7:30pm Gatehouse Cafe
