Thousands see heroes turn on lights

Around 10,000 people packed the town centre in Stafford at the weekend as two real life heroes turned on the Christmas lights.

Don Gray, 91, veteran of the treacherous Arctic Convoys in World War ll, and 29 year old Clive Smith, a bomb disposal expert who lost both legs in an explosion in Afghanistan, joined the Mayor of Stafford Borough, Councillor Ray Sutherland, on stage to signal the traditional countdown to Christmas.

The massive crowd were treated to a top Abba tribute show, before and after the switching on of the lights, as well as a spectacular fireworks display.
