Pupils sow seeds of new projects at crematorium
Date: 3 Jan, 2012
Pupils from a school in Stafford will be planting bulbs to mark a children’s garden at the town’s cemetery.
The youngsters will be carrying out the work in the infants and children’s Rainbow Garden at the Tixall Road cemetery on Monday (9 January). The ten children are all members of the Weston Road High School gardening club.
It is the first in a number of initiatives between the borough council’s crematorium and the local school with projects such as making nest boxes and a competition to design a small garden already in the pipeline.
The flowers will include Daffodils, Crocus and Tulips. The selection of bulbs has been donated by flower specialist, Lubbe Lisse, and once the work is completed the pupils will enjoy tea and cake from the onsite caf? - ‘Hearts and Flowers.’
Cabinet member for environment and health, Councillor Frank Finlay, said: “It will be great for the youngsters to come back in the spring and see how their work has enhanced this very special site. I know our bereavement service is looking forward to working with them on future projects as well.”
