Delivering Development for Stafford Borough
Thousands of new homes, and major office, retail and employment development, are coming to the Borough. The significant scale of this development, which the Council must meet by the year 2026, is set by the West Midlands Regional Spatial Strategy - which is decided by National Government.
In brief this is what must be provided in the Borough:
- More than 10,000 new homes of which 7,000 must be in Stafford town;
- 120 hectares of new employment land;
- 50,000 square metres of new retail space; and
- 45,000 square metres of new offices
The 'Delivering the Plan for Stafford Borough - issues & options' document sets out possible options for where this future development could go. It also sets out how we can provide this development taking account of issues such as transport, community services, education and open space.
The consultation will help prepare a plan for the future of our area called the 'Stafford Borough Local Development Framework' (LDF) which will ultimately replace the existing Stafford Borough Local Plan 2001.
We invited comments on the document during February and March 2009. The consultation period closed on Friday 3 April 2009.
