Safeguarding Children and Young People

Improving the way people work together to safeguard, promote and improve the welfare of children and young people is crucial.  Sections 10 and 11 of the Children Act 2004 place new duties upon Local Authorities and their partners to co-operate to make arrangements to ensure that they safeguard and promote the welfare of all children.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children within Staffordshire requires effective co-ordination. Staffordshire Safeguarding Children Board (SSCB) was established in April 2006 and replaces the former Area Child Protection Committee (ACPC).  SSCB is the key local statutory mechanism for agreeing how relevant organisations will co-operate to safeguard and promote the welfare of children in Staffordshire and for ensuring the effectiveness of what they do.

As a joint stakeholder, it is our duty to co-operate with both the Trust and the Staffordshire Safeguarding Children Board when making arrangements to safeguard all children within our Borough and to actively help to shape them so that improvements are seen in all areas of our service delivery and associated outcomes for children.
