The council buys goods, services and works ranging from small one-off purchases to large supplies or service contracts. Shown below are some of the typical purchases that the council makes:
In 2008/09 total spend by Stafford Borough Council was approximately £11m of which over £1m was spent with suppliers based in the borough.
The council will use its purchasing power to positively influence the local economy using local enterprise wherever practicable and ensure that opportunities to promote the social, economic and environmental wellbeing of the Borough are maximised in a manner consistent with statutory and mandatory public procurement regulations and other requirements, including the EU procurement regulatory frame. Taking this into account it needs to be noted that the council will not undertake any actions that damage fair and open competition. The council will provide all sections of the community with the best possible services, achieving value for money at all times in respect of quality, guarantees, product benefits and service back-up.
The Council obtains quotation requests and places contracts for a wide range of goods and services. Some of these contracts will be for one-off requirements, while others will be for recurring contracts.
Details can be found on our Current Tender Opportunities webpage.
Businesses wishing to be considered as potential suppliers are asked to register their details with Stafford Borough Council by completing the Business Register of Potential Suppliers.
This register is not an approved suppliers list, but one, which Stafford Borough Council staff access should they wish to source quotes and talk to relevant potential suppliers.
