Sports Development - Code of Conduct

Code of conduct for Spectators and Teachers

Multi SportsThis code of conduct has been designed to ensure that all young people that take part in our festivals and tournaments have a fun and positive experience whilst playing their chosen sport.

Stafford Borough Council’s Sports Development team is fully supportive of this code of conduct. We would like to ensure that all children taking part in these events do so in a safe and enjoyable environment as well as ensuring that they have the opportunity to learn and improve their skills.

'Children’s sport is there for them to gain experiences, have fun, learn the sport and increase their social skills for later life. Winning isn’t everything'

Please help us to ensure that all young people entering our sporting events get this same opportunity by adhering to this simple code of conduct.

  • Remember that all children play sport for fun

  • Applaud effort and good play as well as success

  • Always respect the match officials decisions

  • Remain outside the field of play and within the designated spectators area (where provided)

  • Let the teacher/coach do their job and do not confuse the children by telling them what to do

  • Encourage the players to respect the opposition, referee and match officials

  • Avoid criticising a player for making a mistake – mistakes are all part of learning

  • Never engage in, or tolerate, offensive, insulting, or abusive language or behaviour
