Stafford Borough

Proud to be a Fairtrade Borough

Fairtrade BoroughStafford Area Action for Fairtrade (SAAFT) was formed in 1999 by people who live and work in the Stafford area (Part of the criteria for gaining FT borough or town status is to have an active Fairtrade Group).

Initially Stafford became the first FAIRTRADE Town in Staffordshire on 6th August 2003. This was renewed in 2006. The Borough was then awarded FT Borough status in 2010. To become a Fairtrade Borough we had to show that there is a real commitment to Fairtrade in all sectors of the community.

A resolution supporting Fairtrade was passed by Stafford Borough Council and strict criteria were met on the number of shops and cafis that sell Fairtrade products and businesses that support Fairtrade.  The Borough has also had to show that it supports Fairtrade in other ways too, such as having a local Fairtrade group - ours is called Stafford Area Action for Fairtrade - and running events during Fairtrade Fortnight in February and March.

The Fairtrade Fortnight for 2012 begins Monday 27th February until Sunday 11th March.
