We will investigate complaints relating to sub-standard accommodation in the public, privately rented, and registered social sector.
Where necessary action will be taken in the case of unfit properties, properties in substantial disrepair and conditions materially affecting the comfort of the occupier. You can report any defective or sub-standard housing by clicking here.
Grants
The Council are able to approve grants only where applications satisfy both the legal requirements of the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996 and the Council Policy relating to that legislation.The availablility of discretionary grants and home repair assistance is subject to the Council having sufficient money available to approve applications received.
Grant assistance is intended to help those owners of dwellings who could not otherwise afford to maintain their property or to provide the facilities essential for disabled occupiers.
Written appoval must be obtained from the Council before any work is started .
Disabled facilities grant:
If you or someone living in your property is disabled you may qualify for a disabled facilities grant towards the cost of providing adaptations to enable the disabled person to continue living there. All applicants will be subject to a means test which assesses how much, if anything, the applicant must contribute towards the cost of the work.
