The urban design service includes the provision of policy, guidance and best practice that provides an input in the development control process, and a limited front line service of pre-application advice. Adopted documents are available to download from this web page (all in PDF format):
Urban Design Framework
An urban design framework is a document describing and illustrating how design policies and principles should be implemented in an area where there is a need to control, guide and promote change. It includes a two and three-dimensional vision of the future environmental enhancement requirements. Urban Design Section had produced two urban design framework documents for the two town centres within the Borough:

Development Briefs
A development brief usually covers a site most of which is likely to be developed in the near future. A development brief is a document providing guidance on how a specifics sites of significant size or sensitivity should be developed in line with relevant planning and design policies from development plan. It will usually contain some indicative, but flexible, 2D and 3D vision of future development form.
Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG's)
SPG can play a valuable role in supplementing the policies set out in the Development Plan but does not form part of the statutory plan. SPG can be taken into account as a material consideration in planning application decisions. Stafford Borough Council has adopted the following SPG:
