We all hope that we'll never suffer from a flood or a fire, but what would you do if your business premises were out of action? Most people trust to their insurance policy......and luck!

The best way, however, is to plan for all eventualities. This is called business continuity management. It's an essential part of running any successful business. The temptation is to put it off, due to day-to-day pressures of work. Then comes the day when disaster strikes. Imagine if all your computers and data were stolen? Or a fire destroyed key equipment, stock, or storage space? What would you do?

Although Stafford Borough Council is not in a position to give direct help with business continuity, we know some useful websites and documents that can give you all you need to get going with your plan:

>Business Continuity Information

>The Business Continuity Institute (BCI)

>Business Continuity Management Plan Template

These guides will lead you through the process of constructing your very own business continuity management plan. It won't stop that fire or flood, but it will certainly help you to reduce the likelihood of it happening, and help you to get back up and running as quickly as possible.
