Stafford Borough is steeped in history, from its Stone Age origins, through Roman and medieval times to modern industrial life. Its network of towns and villages with picturesque churches, castles and stately homes reflects the unique identity of this part of the north Midlands. Stafford Borough Council has responsibility for three key heritage sites in the borough. |
| The Ancient High House is the largest timber framed town house in England, Izaak Walton's Cottage was once owned by celebrated author of the Compleat Angler, and Stafford Castle was first built by William the Conqueror over 900 years ago. These, along with other stunning local heritage sites such as the Complete Working Historic Estate of Shugborough, home to the Earls of Lichfield, attract visitors from across the world. |
