Fun In The Parks With Play Rangers
Following a successful bid to the Big Lottery Fund, Stafford Borough Council now provides Play Rangers in Victoria Park, Wildwood Park, Rowley Park and Stonefield Park.

The qualified Play Rangers will be offering free 'open access' sessions where 8 to 15 year olds can come and go as they please (without formal registration) and have fun in the parks come rain or shine. Play Rangers will directly engage with children and young people to provide a safe environment to play at the same time as offering them challenges and risks with lots of fun.

A new holiday scheme for children is to be rolled out across the Borough in 2008
Thousands of youngsters will be urged to get involved in sports, the arts and heritage as part of an improved Borough Council-run scheme.

The new Leisure Centre and Ancient High House in Stafford along with Alleyne's Sports centre and Westbridge Park in Stone will be some of the venues that will throw open their doors during the school holidays for a range of activities.

And the council will be joining forces with sports organisations, 'Friends Groups,' artists and Parish Council's to deliver the scheme as well as pumping money in to help local clubs run courses for kids across the Borough.

Regular holiday favourites such as Star Track Athletics at Rowley Park, and the 'Chill Out' sessions in Stafford and Stone will be included in the packed programme. The scheme runs through all school holidays except the Christmas break.

The new scheme updates the former 'Skoolz Out' programme and will improve on the activities available to local children.

Cabinet Member for Leisure, Councillor Mike Smith, said: "This is an exciting opportunity to work with a wide variety of other organisations and specialist clubs to get more children involved in sporting activities, the arts and our heritage.

"We want to utilise the council's expertise and facilities in these areas to target the activities for young people. Creating a healthier Borough is one of the council's top priorities and we can go a long way to achieving this by getting the right balance of activities to encourage more children to attend the range of events that we will be providing."

He added: "Getting more young people involved in sporting activity is also a key priority for all members and partners of Stafford Boroughs Childrens Locality Board."
