Planning advice, building control and town centre management

Minerals are an essential part of our day-to-day to lives. The bricks in our homes, the pavements in our towns and the shops we visit all rely on minerals in their construction.  A Minerals Local Plan is the current adopted statutory plan that addresses the land-use aspects of managing minerals.

Demand for minerals places extra pressure on our local environment. This is where the Minerals Local Plan comes in.

The Minerals Local Plan aims to strike a balance between society's needs for minerals and the need to protect our local environment. Every Council in the UK has a legal duty to publish a Minerals Local Plan.  The current statutory Minerals Local Plan was adopted in 1999 and covers the period 1994-2006. For more information about the Minerals Local Plan, please click

The Minerals Local Plan will be replaced by the MWDF that is now currently being prepared. The MWDF follows a similar format to that of the Stafford Borough Local Development Framework, in that a Local Development Scheme and Statement of Community Involvement have to prepared alongside Development Plan Documents (DPDs), as well as Sustainability Appraisals.
