Every Personal Watercraft user that uses/crosses Council owned/managed launching areas, will first need to register with the local authority in that area.

To obtain registration, a fee will need to be paid, and the registering Officer will have to ensure proof of identity and proof of adequate insurance cover.
Access for Personal Watercrafts will not be allowed to any of the Council's beaches if the owner has not registered the craft with the local authority, or if the registration has been withdrawn. The AA/AB identification number must be visible in bold lettering on both sides of the craft.
Minimum insurance cover will be Third Party £1 million.
Age Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age to operate a Personal Watercraft.
- Be 15 to 17, and possess a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Certificate of Competence and operate under direct adult supervision. The definition of 'supervision' is such that the adult is present on the craft.
- Under 12 - not allowed to operate a Personal Watercraft.
Speed Restrictions
- A wakeless speed is required within 50 metres of another Personal Watercraft, boat, dock, swimmer, skier, angler or fishing equipment.
- The Council's speed restrictions must be complied within in all designated areas.
- Where there is no specified speed limit, the maximum speed is 4 mph within 100 metres of the coastline (from the low water mark).
Notes
- Boating under the influence of drink, or drugs is not permitted.
- Navigation of Personal Watercraft in a responsible manner will be encouraged.
- Equipment requirement will be recommended.
- Other safety and courtesy procedures wll be encouraged.
- Launching fees will be payable.
- An owner/users registration will be withdrawn if the operator fails to comply with the above conditions.
