Council tax

Stafford Borough Council is responsible for collecting the Council Tax from all households in the area. Each dwelling is billed for Council Tax, whether it is a house, bungalow, flat, maisonette, mobile home or house boat, and whether it is owned or rented. Each property is allocated to one of eight bands according to it's market value on 1st April 1991. Properties in band D will pay the basic charge and properties in other bands will be charged proportionately.

The amount of Council Tax you have to pay depends on:

  • The valuation band your property is in
  • The number of people aged 18 or over living in your property

When we work out your Council Tax we assume that two people, aged 18 or over, live in most properties.
