This month, Stafford Farmers' Market will take place on November 12th in Stafford Market Square - and it will have a festive and environmentally friendly feel.
Along with local, fresh, seasonal and healthy produce - such as cheese and wines, honey and cakes, succulent meats and vegetables - shoppers will be able to visit a wide array of stalls with environmentally friendly gifts to choose from - all kinds of unique gifts that don't cost the earth!
The Green Christmas Fair is an annual event organised by the local Friends of the Earth Group - but this year it has joined forces with the Farmers' Market to promote environmental issues and to encourage us all to have a greener Christmas
The Farmers' Market and Green Christmas Fair share several objectives - but mainly they promote sustainable lifestyles and help us to make 'greener', healthier choices.
Environmental and sustainability groups that will be represented at the event include: Friends of the Earth, the Staffordshire Bat Group and the Staffordshire Badger Group, Greenpeace, RSPB, our local Riverwoods Project, Tiger Care, Campaign for the Protection of Rural England, Amnesty, plus the local Stafford Fairtrade Group.
Set up and supported as part of the Councils' Local Agenda 21 programme for sustainable development, the Farmers' Market is open from 9.30 a.m. till 4.00 p.m.
Karen Davies, Local Agenda 21 Co-ordinator said 'The Farmers' Market and Green Christmas Fair together offer the opportunity to buy unusual and original gifts with a green theme. Come and enjoy a flavour of Christmas in the knowledge that your gifts won't cost the earth - but will help others appreciate it!'
