Local organisations in Stafford and Stone have the chance to say it with flowers next year.
The work that is undertaken by Streetscene plays a vital part in the life of Stafford Borough. The service is responsible for looking after Stafford Borough's public spaces and ensuring they are clean, tidy and attractive. To achieve this, Streetscene operates a wide range of services from grounds maintenance and street cleansing through to the provision of car parks and cleaning of public conveniences. We work to deliver the Council's aim to protect and enhance the environment of Stafford Borough.
If you are interested in borrowing some litterpickers, gloves or bags for a community litterpicking exercise please call 01785 619347.
Streetscene is part of Stafford Borough Council's environmental maintenance department and it is our job to keep the borough's streets clean, green and safe.
We do this in two ways, through our Street cleansing team and through our grounds maintenance team.

You can contact Streetscene to report or ask about the following:
Litter picking
Streetscene has a team who go around the borough picking up litter by hand using litter pickers.
We try to send a litter picker around your neighbourhood at least once a week and they are in the town centre every day.
Just by walking around and picking up litter from the borough's streets and public open spaces, our team collects around 340 tonnes of litter a year. That is the same weight as around nine fully grown African elephants.
Street sweeping
The Streetscene team have a number of different street sweeping vehicles that we use on the borough's roads.
We have two Scarab Merlins, which are the large channel sweepers you see on the roads, a Scarab Minor, which is the smaller vehicle that sweeps the pavements, and an Aquazura street washer, which is what we use in conjunction with a steam cleaner to remove chewing gum from the pavements.
Main roads in the borough are swept at least once every four weeks, housing estates at least once every nine weeks, shopping precincts at least once every two weeks and Stafford and Stone town centres are swept everyday.
The sweepers collect fallen leaves, dirt and other debris from the roads as well as litter.
If you would like to report a street that could do with a sweeping, please contact us.
Emptying litterbins
We are responsible for the borough council's litterbins only. There are over 1,300 of these in the borough and they are usually easily recognisable by their bright green Streetscene bin liners.
Litterbins situated in the town centres of Stafford and Stone are emptied daily. The ones situated outside smaller shopping areas around the borough are emptied approximately four times a week and bins in the parishes are emptied once a week, depending on use.
Dog Fouling
Dog mess is not only unsightly, it can also be a danger to public health. It is an offence for dog owners not to clear up after their pets on designated land (footpaths, roads, school playing fields, sports fields and parks for example) but unfortunately some people still allow their dogs to foul of public land without picking it up afterwards. If there is a lot of dog mess on a public pavement or open space we can remove it.
Streetscene can also provide dog litterbins for areas where there is a persistent problem of dog fouling. If you would like to report a problem, first please contact the borough council Dog Warden.
Dead Animals
Streetscene provides a free service for the removal of dead animals from public accessible areas.
You can call us to report animals on the roadside or pavements such as badgers and foxes, dogs or cats.
We cannot move dead animals from private residences.
If the dead animal is in a river then it is the responsibility of the Environment Agency. Please call them on 07802 335 031 to report an animal in a river.
Removal of sharps and broken glass
When litter is considered dangerous to the public, as in the case of broken glass and sharps (which includes needles and other drug paraphernalia) Streetscene will endeavour to get it cleared up the same day it is reported.
In the case of sharps, if they are on privately owned property, Streetscene will still collect them although charges may apply. Please contact us for information.
Graffiti/flyposting
Streetscene will endeavour to remove offensive graffiti (ie swear words or racial comments) from borough council owned property only within 24 hours.
Flyposting can also be removed from borough council owned land and property.
Streetscene will endeavour to remove fly tipping from Open Spaces, Highway Land and Highway Verges that are in the Borough, within one day.
Cleaning public toilets
There is a dedicated team of three Streetscene workers that are in charge of cleaning the borough council public toilets.
Council toilets in Stafford town centre are located in Bridge Street (next to pedestrian entrance to the multi storey car park by the river) Broad Street (next to the Shopmobility building) the Doxey Lorry Park facilities next to Sainsbury's and on North Walls car park.
In Stone we clean the toilets on Station Road and Crown Street and we also clean the public toilets on the Stone Road in Eccleshall and Brocton Lane in Milford.
Streetscene cuts grass on all borough council owned land such as public open spaces, parks and town centres.
During the spring and summer months (March to the end of October/early November) the council owned grass is cut roughly every 2 to 3 weeks, depending on the weather. We aim to have it cut around 16 times during the period.
We do not cut the grass on roadside verges, which are done by the County Council's Highways service. If you would like to contact them call the Clarence phone line on the free phone number 0800 232323 or email clarence@staffordshire.gov.uk .
Maintaining flowerbeds
Streetscene's grounds maintenance staff plant and maintain the borough council owned flowerbeds in the town parks (Victoria Park in Stafford and Stonefield Park in Stone) and in the town centres, plus ones dotted around the borough such as the ones on the Newport Road and Broad Eye roundabouts, Gaol Square and on the Welcome to Stafford sign on the Weston Road in Stafford, and St Vincent's Square and outside Westbridge Park in Stone.
