Art from the Spokes
Meeting held on Tuesday 5th June 2007 at 2pm at Stafford College,
Broad Eye Building, Sculpture Dept.
(World Environment Day!!)

1.     Present:

The Group welcomed Cllr Maureen Compton, from Staffordshire County Council, who is
the Cabinet support member for Culture and Heritage (libraries, museums, arts, archives, music).

2.     Apologies: None

3.     Minutes of Last Meeting 24th April
Accepted as correct record.

4.     Progress on small-scale objects/bike chain key rings:
Work on this needs further support, so will be progressed when the p/t LA 21 post is filled. Hopefully very soon!!

5.     Mayor's Parade, Sat July 14th :
Adam will be away. Group keen to be involved. Jess, Ian and Lynn will help on the day. Karen to check if float can be parked in College to 'dress'. Adam can arrange for sculptures to be available and for security to allow access. Karen to check times of parade.

(Karen: this will be fine. The float should be able to get to College between 8 and 9 am. The floats line up on Bridge Street (near Weatherspoons) by 11 am, then set off at 12 to finish at 1 pm)

6.     Progress on large scale features/objects:

·       Main focus, Shugborough Exhibition

·       Sculptures will include: Water Skater, Wasp; Spider's web and hand; Dragonfly etc

·       Date: Wednesday 18th July to remain open till 3rd September

·       Pre set up visit to Shugborough: Friday 15th June (Adam and students)

·       Will also need information/interpretation material (Dale)

·       Displays from LA 21, B2B, Art from the Spokes (Karen) - also Culturegen (OK? Jane). 

·       Linda has been producing a digital photo library of the project, so these can be used (Linda, can Karen have a disk with some of these on if possible please)

·       The Launch Event

·       College Marketing team will be able to help (Claire Chick)

·       Need Invite List asap! (Claire Chick/Adam) - to include: MP David Kidney, SCC reps Cllr Maureen Compton, Cllr Terry Dix, Chairman of the Council, Cllr Robert Simpson, Deputy Leader, Nigel Singh Head of Arts. SBC reps The Mayor (Cllr Brian Price), Cllr Stan Highfield, Cabinet Member Environment, Cllr Mike Smith, Cabinet Member Leisure, plus who? Could check with Culturegen to see who was 'on their list' for the County Show.  

·       Need to order food and drink - ideally with thought given to sustainability eg local, Fairtrade etc where possible

·       Ian will submit grant application to SCC arts grant programme - liaise with Owen Hucolme at SCC)

·       LA 21 will contribute £100

·       Ian to contact Culturegen to ask if they can also help sponsor.

·       Press Release about Launch (College and Adam - can you let Karen have a look before its sent out)

·       Series of short presentations at the event from: The Mayor of Stafford Borough, Cllr Terry Dix or Cllr Robert Simpson, Jim Baker form College, Richard Kemp from Shugborough. What about David Kidney - he has supported Back 2 Bikes through from the grant bidding to its opening and continued running. I think he would be v interested. College to contact and invite asap.

·        Further development of initiative to be discussed and planned in new academic year!
