Time has gone so quickly since I and the Conservative Group were re-elected in May. We retain control of the Council with 40 members, a very large majority.

We aim to continue to maintain and improve Stafford Borough as a clean, green, healthy, safe and prosperous place to live, work and play in. We are so lucky to live in an area with beautiful countryside and yet in easy reach of major cities, airports and motorways. We have a duty to look after our area of 230 sq miles and our population of 122,500.

We will continue to:

encourage developments which serve to further any and all of these objectives
keep the Borough Council's share of the Council Tax within inflation
streamline the Council's administrative overheads so that the highest possible proportion of the Council's tax revenue is spent on public services rather than red tape
will press the County Council for improvements to the Borough's roads and pavements and measures to control increasing congestion in Stafford and Stone
scrutinise new and on-going developments to ensure that they provide the facilities that give maximum benefit and enjoyment to our residents
encourage more recycling throughout the Borough to meet the Government's stringent targets by 2010
improve the Borough's recreation facilities and encourage healthy life styles.
will monitor the Government's demands for increased house building and make sure that development does not take place without the necessary infrastructure - roads, schools and medical facilities
will continue to assist where ever possible our elderly and disabled residents
work hard in the rural areas, which are home to more than 40% of our residents and which provide enjoyment to many in our urban areas.
