The conservation service advises Development Control on planning applications affecting listed buildings and conservation areas. Advice is also given to owners that live in listed buildings or within conservation areas on aspects such as building construction or use of suitable materials for example. Applications are also assessed alongside the statutory development plan that includes Local Plan policies that cover the historic environment and national policy guidance covered in Planning Policy Guidance Note 15: 'Planning and the Historic Environment' and related Planning Circulars 01/01, 09/2005 and 01/2007.
