Flood Risk and Strategic Flood Risk Assessments (SFRAs)

Significant areas of the Stafford Borough area are within Flood Risk zones 2 and 3. Planning Policy Statement (PPS) 25: 'Development and Flood Risk' requires the council to undertake a sequential test when dealing with planning applications within flood zones 2 and 3. This requires the consideration of a range of alternative sites, and it is therefore necessary for the applicant to sumbit, with an application, evidence that alternative sites outside flood zones 2 and 3 have been considered. Further information on flood zones is provided by the Environment Agency by clicking here.

Stafford Borough Council has appointed Halcrow consultants to undertake a joint Strategic Flood Risk Assessment (SFRA) that will also cover the areas of Lichfield, Staffordshire Moorlands and Tamworth Borough councils. The SFRA will form part of the LDF evidence base. The requirement for local planning authorities to produce a SFRAs is stated within PPS25 and is monitored by the Environment Agency as a statutory consultee.
