Stafford Town Centre Conservation Area Boundary Review/Appraisal
Introduction
The Stafford town centre conservation area boundary was originally designated on 27th November 1971. Obviously, Stafford town centre has faced a great deal of change and redevelopment since 1971 and it is considered that the boundary should be reviewed in light of these historic changes. The Appraisal document assesses the unique historical and architectural interest of Stafford town and will be used to provide a sound basis for development control decisions and further initiatives within the area. The consultation period for the Appraisal and Review has now closed, but the document can still be viewed via the Limehouse Consultation Portal by clicking here. The full document can also be viewed below.

Consultation
The first round of consultation in the development of the appraisal and review was undertaken in July 2007. This consultation was in the form of a public meeting with a 'walkabout', which gave individuals an insight to the context of the historical environment within Stafford that was followed by a general discussion workshop to any issues raised through the tour. This developed ideas and discussion that has informed the consultants in developing the work. This event took place at Oddfellows Hall, Greengate Street, Stafford on Saturday 14th July 2007.
The Draft Stafford Conservation Area Appraisal was then prepared, and a second round of consultation took place between 25 January and 7 March 2008. Letters were sent to all properties within the Stafford Conservation Area and its proposed extension, and to other interested parties, inviting comment. The Appraisal was made available via the Borough's website, or in paper form.
The Next Stage
Some minor amendments have been made to the Draft Appraisal reflecting comments made during the consultation period. It will now be referred to Borough Councillors seeking approval for its formal adoption.
