Sports Development in Stafford Borough

The Sports Development Team at Stafford Borough Council work hard to ensure that the young people of the Borough have the opportunity to take part in a variety of sports through coaching sessions run by qualified and experienced coaches both in the community and at specific schools. The Sports Development Team also act as a point of contact for anyone wishing to gain coaching qualifications or obtain further information about a certain sport - if they don't know the answer to your question then they will endeavour to find someone for you who does!

 

Borough Sports Awards 2008

 

The Borough Sports Awards for 2008 will take place on Friday 27th Februaury 2009 at St Leonards Sports and Social Club in Stafford.  There are a variety of categories that will be presented at the evening ranging from team and individual performances to volunteers and coaches.  Nominees must be either a resident of Stafford Borough or attend a club within the Borough and the closing date is 15 December 2008.

Working with Development Groups


To ensure that clubs, coaches, governing bodies and all other interested parties can put forward their thoughts and ideas on how best to develop their sport in Stafford Borough. Development Groups have been established in many sports and they are continuing to grow and develop. County-wide development groups also exist in other sports coordinated through the Sport Across Staffordshire partnership. As a sports development unit we feed any local information into their groups.

 

 

Working with Schools

Through running coaching courses in local primary schools. Running Festivals and tournaments in a variety of sports to offer Primary school children competitive sports opportunities. To assist high schools with funding applications to the New Opportunities Fund for Sports Facilities. Providing advice to schools on submitting small grant applications.

 

 

Working with Voluntary Sports Clubs

To produce an annual Sports Club Directory and to direct children on community sports courses to become members of local clubs ensuring their sustainability. As a key partner with the Sport Across Staffordshire Partnership delivering Club development workshops and offering advice on Club Accreditation schemes and funding opportunities. Working with Sports Coaches

To provide training opportunities of a generic nature, e.g. speed agility and quickness training, child protection courses and other Sports Coach UK courses. We also provide sport specific courses in conjunction with the Sport Across Staffordshire Partnership and the Coaching for Teachers Scheme, e.g. TOP Up courses for Primary School teachers and Level 1 or Level 2 Courses for aspiring coaches. The Leisure Section at Stafford Borough Council has a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the process of submitting Awards for All applications and assisting in the submission of most funding applications for sports facilities / initiatives. Stafford Borough Sports Council also offers a variety of small grants to clubs for development work, to individuals at a regional level of competition or higher and to coaches to assist in their development.
