Following the introduction of the new improved waste collection in February 2008, there has been a tremendous response from the residents of Stafford Borough that has already made it one of the top areas in the country for recycling.

Recent national guidelines to improve the quality of composting now require us to remove the cardboard from the brown bin.

From 8 September the cardboard will be collected in the blue recycling bin along with the other recyclable materials.  Shredded paper will be placed in the inner caddy of the blue bin with the paper.

All households will receive a letter to advise them how the service will change in September; the letter will include replacement blue and brown bin stickers and a replacement page for the Recycling and Waste Services Booklet.

To enable these changes to take place, approximately 26,000 properties will also have their bin collection day changed.  These properties will also be sent a replacement calendar in addition to the above information.

Councillor Stan Highfield, Cabinet Member for Environment and Health, said "Fortunately the collection system we have introduced allows us to adapt to these new regulations without reducing the quality of service or making it confusing to customers.  It will mean cardboard will now be collected in the blue bin with the rest of the recyclables."

Roadshows are also being held in Stafford Market Square on 21 August 2008 and Stone Town Square on 27 August 2008.  Members of the Environmental and Health Service will be on hand to answer questions from the public regarding the Recycling and Waste service.

Stafford Borough Council is confident that the change in service will run smoothly with minimal inconvenience to householders.  The Customer Contact Centre and Waste Management Team will be available to help with any queries that residents have and be contacted on 01785 619402.
