The new waste collection service that was rolled out in February 2008 has already proved to be an amazing success putting the Borough into the top set of authorities for recycling in the country. It has seen recycling jump to more than 50% as householders across the Borough backed the new service.

The innovative blue bin takes plastic food, drink and household packaging, glass bottles and jars, cans, and also cardboard packaging with an internal compartment for newspapers, magazines and shredded paper. The brown bin is used for garden waste.

Councillor Stan Highfield, Cabinet Member for Environment and Health, said:

"Thanks to the people of the Borough this new recycling service has been a tremendous success".
