Press Release

4th Edition of Local Food Directory for Staffordshire!

Link: Local Food Directory

A new edition of the Staffordshire Local Food Directory is currently being collated.

The new Directory will contain the details of well over a hundred local food producers and retailers. It aims to help the public, as well as owners of restaurants and other food outlets to explore and access the wide range of locally grown, reared or produced food available in the County. Staffordshire can boast a wealth of local produce - from the humble potato to fine wines, from the Staffordshire Oatcake, to ice cream, preserves, chocolate and cheeses, and a vast range of fruit, vegetables and meats.

The Local Food Directory aims to promote sustainable food production and healthy eating across Staffordshire. It will support and publicise the many small food producers and food businesses across the county - helping maintain a strong local economy. It will also help combat the problems of transporting food over long distances - swallowing up gallons of fuel, producing polluting exhaust emissions and adding to the congestion on our roads - not to mention carbon dioxide emissions and their contribution to Climate Change. The Directory also aims to help to make fresh, healthy food more easily available to everyone.

It is hoped to launch the Directory in May of 2008, so all local producers and retailers selling local food should get in contact now if they would like to be included. Entry into the Directory is free of charge and the Directory will provide a valuable advertising opportunity for local food businesses, reaching a wide  audience through both printed copy and the website.

We hope to include as many local food producers and retailers as possible, so no matter how small your business is, do get in touch with us for more details. The deadline for applications to be completed and returned is approaching fast, so please get in touch as soon as possible, Feb 15th at the latest!

For details regarding eligibility and an application form please contact Joanne Lloyd at the Taste of Staffordshire Partnership, tel 01785 277225, email Joanne.lloyd@staffordshire.gov.uk

The Staffordshire Local Food Directory was first researched and published by Stafford Borough Local Food Links Group in 2002 as part of Stafford Borough Council's commitment to sustainable development.
