Gypsy and Traveller Information
The Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Needs Assessment has been undertaken by the Housing and Urban Studies Unit at the University of Salford assisted by staff at the University of Birmingham.
The report is part of a number of pieces of research that provide background for the council's 'Housing Strategy' and 'Local Development Framework' - which guides decisions on planning applications.
The study was commissioned by the five local authorities which make up the North Housing Market area of the West Midlands - East Staffordshire Borough, Newcastle under Lyme Borough, Stafford Borough, Staffordshire Moorlands District and Stoke-on-Trent City.
It follows recent guidance from the Government which aims to give the Gypsy and Travelling community access to decent living conditions. Similar assessments of accommodation needs are now being undertaken across the country.
