GREEN FINGERS

Link: Astonfields Balancing Lakes Local Nature Reserve

On Sunday 10th February volunteers are invited to join members of the 'Friends of Astonfields Balancing Lakes' and Stafford Borough Council who will be taking part in an 'Volunteer Conservation Day' at Astonfields Balancing Lakes Local Nature Reserve in Stafford.

Between 10am and 2pm volunteers will be planting woodland wild flowers along the edges of the Local Nature Reserve. There will also be time for a litter-pick of the whole reserve.

Anyone interested in taking part in the event are asked to meet at the entrance nearest to the Schott Glass building on Astonfields Industrial Estate and are advised to wear sensible outdoors clothing, gloves and Wellington Boots or other sturdy footwear. Tools and equipment will be provided.

Astonfields Balancing Lakes Local Nature Reserve is a 10 acre site close to the centre of Stafford, which is being managed in accordance with a five-year habitat management plan.

This is one of many initiatives that have been developed as part of Stafford Borough Council's Local Agenda 21 programme, which aims to achieve sustainable development and a better quality of life for all, both today and in the future. Anyone interested in further information about these events, or the Local Agenda 21 team's other biodiversity projects should contact Bill Waller on 01785 619676.
