Environmental Play - Don't Delay, Buy Your Tickets Today
Link: Rachel Carson - Breaking the Silence
Time is running out to buy tickets for the one off Stafford production of 'Breaking the Silence'.
Taking place in the Malcolm Edwards Theatre at Stafford Gatehouse on March 4th this play is expected to be of interest to anyone who is concerned about the environment and man's impact on it.
The play is about Rachel Carson, a remarkable woman who helped spark the environmental movement worldwide.
Her book 'Silent Spring', published in 1962, is so called because it tells of how the indiscriminate use of chemicals led to the abrupt and massive decline of wild bird populations - and thus the sound of bird song - across North America.
The book scientifically exposed the effects of indiscriminate use of insecticides, the destruction of wildlife and man's progressive poisoning of his own habitat. This book was the inspiration and is now the classic text of the environmental movement.
The play, "Breaking the Silence" was written to mark the centenary of her birth in 2007, and has been described as "an absorbing theatrical experience - illuminating, enlightening and very powerful".
Many of the concerns expressed by Rachel Carson in "Silent Spring" reverberate today, as man's activities impact on our planet. From changing our climate, to consuming vast quantities of resources and materials, from creating waste and pollutants, to removing our remaining wilderness areas and natural habitats - it seems now is a critical time to listen again to Rachel Carson's message.
Tickets are on sale now at the Stafford Gatehouse Box Office, and cost £5.50 (£4.50 concessions).
Breaking the Silence is being arranged by Sustainability Matters in Stafford Borough in partnership with Stafford Borough Council, as part of its sustainable development programme.
