Press Release
Fairtrade Fun Day - 8th March
Link: Fairtrade Fortnight 2008 in Stafford Borough
Stafford Area Action for Fairtrade (SAAFT) and Stafford Borough Council will be inviting people to celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight (25th February - 9th March) with a fantastic Fairtrade Fun Day in Market Square, Stafford, on Saturday 8th March.
The colourful and interactive event will be held from 9:00am until 4:00pm in conjunction with the regular Farmers' Market. There will be a range of fairground style side-stalls games and plenty of Fairtrade products to sample and buy.
Stafford Area Action for Fairtrade and Stafford Borough Council's Local Agenda 21 team have organised the event as part of the national celebrations and awareness raising campaign, Fairtrade Fortnight.
Other stalls at the event, which runs alongside the Farmers' Market, include Wikijum, Stone's Fairtrade Shop and Traidcraft. There will also be a chance to join Team SAAFT, the Stafford Fairtrade running team that is competing in this year's Stafford Half Marathon and Fun Run.
Stafford Area Action for Fairtrade (SAAFT) aims to actively raise awareness and understanding of Fairtrade issues amongst all sectors of the Stafford community - from shoppers to café owners and from students to major service providers. Membership of the group is free and open to everyone. It was formed in 1999 by people who live and work in the Stafford area who believe that farmers throughout the world deserve a fair deal for the goods they produce and which we all enjoy.
SAAFT is supported by Stafford Borough Council's Local Agenda 21 team which aims to promote sustainable development and improve quality of life for everyone, both today and in the future, this means in Stafford Borough as well as other, poorer parts of the world
Stafford Area Action for Fairtrade is also aiming to get work places to switch to Fairtrade. Switching to Fairtrade in company vending machines needn't be expensive - the Co-operative Bank is one of the largest consumers of Fairtrade vending products in the UK and is able to provide coffee, tea and hot chocolate to employees at lower than normal prices.
SAAFT is offering a free information service. They will provide information posters for company noticeboards and regular updates on Fairtrade activities both locally and nationally. So if your work place, company or organisation wants to try out Fairtrade, or already does, then get in contact.
