Decent Homes
A decent home is a home that is warm, weatherproof and has reasonably modern facilities.
The Government believes that everyone should have the opportunity to have a decent home. It is aiming to make all Council and Housing Association housing decent by 2010. It also wants to improve conditions for vulnerable households in privately owned housing.
To deliver and meet this standard by 2010, local Housing Associations have developed their own investment strategy to improve homes and monitor progress.
The decent homes target also has a focus on reducing the proportion of private sector vulnerable households living in non-decent homes. We are continuing to support vulnerable households through our housing grants and enforcement services.
