The Local Agenda 21 Strategy for Stafford Borough was published in 2001 in response to the growing need to implement sustainable development at a local level.  This was articulated at the Rio Earth Summit in 1992 were the United Nations adopted an agenda for sustainable development in the 21st Century - Agenda 21.  In response to this the UK government called for all local authorities to compile there own Local Agenda 21 plans. 

The LA21 Stretegy is presently being replaced by the Community Strategy for Stafford Borough and a Sustainable Development Action Plan for Stafford Borough Council.  A draft version of the Action Plan is now available for consultation.

Local Agenda 21 Strategy Reviews

Since being published in 2001 the Local Agenda 21 Strategy for Stafford Borough has undergone a series of annual reviews.

Sustainable Development Action Plan (Draft) 
for Stafford Borough Council (January 2007)

The Local Agenda 21 Strategy is presently being replaced by the Stafford Borough Community Plan and a Sustainable Development Action Plan for Stafford Borough Council.  A draft version of the Action Plan is now available.

UK Sustainable Development Strategy

The UK Government launched its new strategy for sustainable development, 'Securing The Future' and a new Strategic Framework shared by the devolved administrations, 'One future - different paths', on 7 March, 2005.

West Midlands Regional Sustainable Development Framework
The new Regional Sustainable Development Framework (RSDF) for the West Midlands was launched on 27th January. It builds on the foundations laid down in the first West Midlands Sustainability Strategy 'Quality of Life - the future starts here' published at the start of 2000.
