Workplace Health at Stafford Borough Council

The workplace is a very effective setting for health promotion as we spend 60% of our waking lives at work. The goal of a workplace health programme is to improve the health and wellbeing of employees to increase productivity and reduce sickness levels.

Health services have worked with South Staffordshire Primary Care Trust and Mid Staffs Occupational Health to develop a programme of projects and activities that will deliver health benefits to the employees of Stafford Borough Council.

As part of Workplace Health staff get to participate in and enjoy;

  • Monthly newsletters containing health tips, staff interviews and healthy recipes
  • Walking challenges including climbing the height of Ben Nevis using the Civic Centre stairway
  • Range of fitness classes including Zumba, Stretch and Tone and Pilates
  • Hanging Basket Workshops with flowers provided by Streetscene
  • Staff cookbook which includes a wide range of healthy starters, main courses and dessert recipes for staff to attempt to make

We also organise several health fairs throughout the year for staff and other workplace health schemes such as the Town Centre Partnership. These health fairs showcase over 20 different health and wellbeing service providers such as health trainers, time to quit, stroke association and many more. Staff enjoy free samples and free health checks as well as receiving education in areas of health and wellbeing they may not normally have access to.
