As one of our biggest initiatives is to improve knowledge and demonstration of healthy eating, we run regular cook and eat sessions as part of our allotment projects across the borough. These are often held in local community centres.
Demonstrations and practical sessions are held to aid participants in gaining education and practical skills in cookery, the importance of healthy and balanced diet, food safety, kitchen hygiene and food waste.
With the help of our fantastic chefs participants get to enjoy cooking and eating some fun, healthy recipes taking inspiration from classic dishes, replicating healthy versions of take away favourites, speedy meals, recipes on a budget and cooking for the freezer. Dishes are homemade and cooked from scratch, these include chicken nuggets, curries, soups, stews, cookies, fruit smoothies and many more.
All participants get to take away this new knowledge and any of their leftovers to enjoy later. They can also enjoy other homemade healthy recipes at home by downloading any of our recipe booklets found on our homepage.
