Profile
I was born in Stone, educated at Trentham Junior school and Longton High School in Stoke on Trent. I served a 5 year student apprenticeship with English Electric and Beaconside Stafford leaving with a first in Electro-Mechanical engineering. After 3 more years as a Production Engineer I left to work as an Engineer Surveyor for a Manchester Engineering Insurance company, a subsidiary of Sun Alliance. I became a chartered engineer (MIMechE) and worked steadily through the ranks leaving as Operations Manager.
I was first elected to Stafford BC in February 2002 and re-elected in 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2019. I have been the Cabinet Member for Leisure from 2003 until 2019 when I became Cabinet Member for Resources. I am also Deputy Leader of the Council.
For many years I was a keen athlete competing for Staffordshire in the national school championships and I ran the first London Marathon. I retain my membership of Newcastle Staffs Athletic Club and the North Staffs Road Runners Association for which I was statistician through the 1980s.
I am a keen gardener and on the committee of my local horticultural show. I am also interested in vintage machinery, mainly agricultural and railways, being a member and volunteer of several preservation groups.
I represent the council on Sport Stafford Borough, Stafford Narrow Gauge Railway Society and the Horticultural Show Committee. I am also a Parish Councillor for High Offley.
I hold surgeries at your place or mine by appointment.
