Josie Boutique - Case Study

Josie Boutique

As the creative hub of Stafford Borough Stone offers a friendly welcome and a taste of culture and creativity. From hand-crafted goods and artisan values to fine food and drink visitors can expect a warm and welcoming experience in Stone from a colourful community that is bursting with ideas.

Stone resident, and mother of four, Tracy started Josie to bring a mixture of quality, affordable clothing and accessories to residents and visitors of Stone. Tracy is assisted by Kate and they offer the customer service only found in a small independent business.

The business was able to access the Small Business Rate Lockdown Grant in March of 2021 which was a mandatory payment to those in receipt of small business rate relief.

Tracy said: "We are very much a part of the Stone community and our customers value the personal one to one service that we offer. During the pandemic we were mandated to close and had to come up with new and innovative ways of still engaging with our customer base. One of the things we decided to do was to offer to display items in the window as requested by the customer. This enabled the customer to see in person the item they were considering purchasing."

As the business was mandated to close they were eligible to receive the lockdown grants and also the re-start grant.

"There's no doubt that the grants provided a lifeline to our business and enabled us to remain optimistic throughout the restrictive trading conditions." Tracy said "Without the grant we faced a very uncertain future".
