The reception area at the Civic Centre in Stafford has become self service.
The move by Stafford Borough Council is part of plans to minimise the spread of the coronavirus.
Telephones have been laid on in private rooms so that customers can contact staff and computers are available so people can access a range of council services – such as ordering a new bin, telling us about a change of circumstances for housing or council tax benefits, or reporting fly tipping.
Signage has been put up around the reception area at the Riverside in Stafford explaining the move and giving residents and visitors a range of other methods to contact the council.
Stafford Borough Council spokesperson Will Conaghan, said: “We hope people will understand that we want to keep both our customers and staff safe and this is one way we can try and reduce unnecessary contact.
“There are many ways people can get in touch with us – via email, phone, the website or social media – but unfortunately we are asking people not to make any unnecessary visits to the building while the coronavirus pandemic continues.”
