Streets will still be cleaned, household bins collected, and officers will be on-call to help the homeless during the traditional Christmas break.
Stafford Borough Council has outlined some of the services that will still be running from Christmas Day into the New Year.
Residents can find the dates their recycling and waste will be collected from www.staffordbc.gov.uk/bindays - as collection days change during the festive period. A housing officer will be on hand round the clock for those in need of urgent shelter via 01785 619170.
Public rubbish bins will be emptied and streets cleaned every day during the Christmas period – including Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. And funerals at the Stafford crematorium will continue between Christmas and the New Year – although the offices at the town’s Tixall Road site will be shut to the public.
The council run indoor market in Stafford will be open at 9am each day in the run up to Christmas and closing from 3pm Thursday 24 December. It will then be open from Tuesday (29th) until 3pm on New Year’s Eve – and normal opening hours will resume from Saturday 2 January.
Leader of the council, Patrick Farrington, said: “Thank you to all those who continue to work through the Christmas period to ensure key services and support is available to our community. We are grateful for the work they do all year round.
“I want our whole community to enjoy this Christmas - but most of all I want people to remain safe. We know the vaccine is already being rolled out and offers us the chance to start believing that life will return to normal - but until then we must do all we can to protect each other by following the rules and guidance in place.”
The main council offices at Riverside, Stafford will be closed at 3pm on Christmas Eve. For further details of council services go to www.staffordbc.gov.uk
