A new regular litter picking group has been launched by Healthy Communities Stafford.
Eight volunteers for the group’s inaugural session gathered for an hour-long litter pick along the river pathway from ASDA to Stafford Leisure Centre and back.
Volunteers were welcomed with a free cuppa afterwards as a thank you for their efforts.
The April event was delivered in partnership with Stafford Leisure Centre, which is operated by Freedom Leisure on behalf of Stafford Borough Council, and ASDA Stafford.
During the session, volunteers collected nine full bags of litter, including numerous cigarette butts, beer bottles, a shopping basket, and even a pair of underpants. Once the clean-up was complete, volunteers enjoyed a well-earned sit-down, chat and warm drink, helping to build a friendly and inclusive atmosphere for the new group.
Jules Kendrick, Healthy Communities Manager – Stafford said: “We’re thrilled to see such a positive turnout for our first litter pick. It’s a fantastic example of the community coming together to look after the spaces we all enjoy. As well as helping to keep Stafford clean, the group offers a great social opportunity and a brilliant chance for people to get active in a relaxed, friendly environment. We’re really excited to see this group grow over the coming months.”
The litter picking group will now meet monthly, and Healthy Communities Stafford encourages anyone interested in taking part to keep an eye on their social media channels for updates and future dates.
