We love Littleworth!

'Working together for our community - some of the projects so far'

‘We Love Littleworth’ is part of the Council’s work ‘to improve the quality of life of local people by providing a safe, clean, attractive place to live and work and encouraging people to be engaged in developing strong communities that promote good health and wellbeing’.

Over the last couple of years, lots of activity has taken place which has been led by Sustainability Matters, supported by Stafford Borough Council and a range of other partners.

Energy audits have been carried out to help cut energy bills and save money at St John’s Church, Littleworth Community Centre, Littleworth Guide Hut, Perkins Sports and Social Club, the Sea Cadets HQ on Riverway, plus NVS hair studios.  These have led to practical action such as installing a new boiler, fitting wall-heaters, upgrading radiators and lighting systems, fitting security lights and replacing draughty doors - as well as installing a new notice board at the church.

Other work has promoted cycling, tackled litter, helped to conserve wildlife and encouraged vegetable growing.
The ‘Festival of Refashioning and Repair’ and three Repair Cafes held at St John’s Church and Church Hall have showcased how easy it is to repair, upcycle and restore things - rather than throw them away.  The events have really inspired people.

The project at the hospital ‘A Healthier Place for People and Wildlife’ included the planting of 19  large trees, 500 snowdrops and bluebell bulbs and the erection of around 20 nest boxes made at a Community Nest Box Day.  A Sensory Walking Trail was created with picnic tables, rustic and engraved benches and ‘carved animal heads’ and finger mazes.  A table tennis table, bats and balls were  purchased for use by staff in their break time. Positive feedback has been received from a number of local organisations, visitors and staff.
