A parade will take place this Sunday in Stafford to mark the anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

The Mayor of Stafford Borough, Councillor Jenny Barron, will be attending a service at the town’s St Mary’s Church to commemorate the major military battle in World War II in which the Royal Air Force defended the country from attacks by the German Luftwaffe.

To mark the 85th anniversary the service will be followed by prayers and wreath laying at the war memorial in Victoria Square at around 1pm and then a Freedom Parade by members of the Tactical Supply Wing of the RAF through the town centre.

The service at The Collegiate Church of St Mary, Stafford will take place on Sunday (14 September) at 11.45am.

It was the first major battle fought entirely in the air - and the first major military defeat of Nazi Germany.
