We’re supporting schools to become champions for pollinators through the Bee Friendly School Award.
Schools can get involved by:
- planting wildflowers, herbs and nectar-rich plants
- creating habitats like bug hotels, log piles and long grass areas
- reducing pesticide use
- using bees as a theme across the curriculum
Schools can sign up and get access to lesson plans, activity ideas, signage, and the full award criteria at Bumblebee Conservation Trust (bumblebeeconservation.org).
Bee Friendly Successes
Schools across Cannock Chase and Rugeley are buzzing with success after achieving Bee Friendly Schools Awards through the Bumblebee Conservation Trust.
Three schools have achieved Gold Award status - St Peter's Primary Academy, Redbrook Hayes Primary School and Churchfield Primary School - while Chancel Primary School achieved Silver Award status and St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, Rugeley achieved Bronze Award status.
The awards recognise the fantastic efforts of pupils and staff to create habitats for pollinators, raise awareness of the importance of bees and take practical action to support local biodiversity.
Watch Cannock Chase District Council's short video (YouTube) featuring St Peter's Primary Academy to see how the school has been supported through the programme and the positive impact the initiative is having for both pupils and wildlife.
