Work has started again on the park. The team carrying out the restoration used the downtime to put together a safe working plan as part of the Covid-19 lockdown. This will include a reduced work force with strict social distancing measures in place. This means it is still unlikely that the work will be completed in time for the park to reopen in July but we will continue to provide regular updates on this page. The tender opportunity for a new Catering Operator is also suspended until further notice.
The Bandstand roof is nearly complete and looking good. The original finial detail was in very poor repair so students from Stafford College have made an exact replica.
The decorative detail on the Mottram Shelter has been restored and painting of the metalwork has commenced prior to installing the wooden panels and seating.
Construction of the new café has continued and visitors will enjoy elevated views across the park both from the glazed interior and the outside decking area.
Internal fit out has started in the thatched toilet block, which will include the Park Office and accessible WC. The education room is now attractively clad in timber and, with the adjoining new Greenhouse, will be a fabulous new modern facility.
Work has started on improving the pathways and entrance gates, together with the construction of the raised planting beds for the new sensory garden and commemorative carpet bed.
Our Digital Archive now has lots of historical images of the park. Thank you to everyone who has been in touch already. As we are all staying at home to stay safe and help the NHS, this would be a perfect opportunity to have a look though your old photos to help us out. Please post to our Facebook page or email copies to us if you can. Alternatively please ring the mobile number below so we can arrange to scan them at a later date. You could also be part of our history project by writing down your memories and sending them to us via Facebook, email or post.
