The river levels have gradually reduced over the last couple of weeks which has enabled foundation work to continue for the new café. The café frame should be installed during January and we will be going out to tender to find an operator for the café soon.
The bandstand timber work has been completed and is now awaiting a new zinc roof before the next stage of renovation commences.
The foundations have been laid for the new greenhouse which will adjoin the Education Centre. This brand new facility will host a number of activities for local education providers and will also be available to hire.
The Mottram Shelter required a new drainage system which is now complete. Joinery and Carpentry Students from Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group are working on replacement panels in the workshops at Stafford College. This work will form a practical part of their studies and we are delighted that they will be able to view their handiwork in the Park once the work is completed.
The students are also gaining valuable practical work experience and conservation skills replacing and repairing some of the panels at the refurbished thatched toilet block and office. Site contractor, Woodhead Ltd, have also been able to offer some hours of general work experience to learners from Nova Training.
Project Management work experience placements have also been offered.
Our Community Engagement & Events Officer is starting to form a plan for activities and events once the park re-opens and we are also looking to increase volunteer numbers to enable us to deliver on all our exciting ideas. We have also issued a plea for historical photographs of the park to form part of our digital archive. If you would like to be involved in any way please get in touch:
