Public invited to ‘drop-in’ to share views on major refurb of popular park in Stafford

Rowley Park Consultation

Residents still have time if they want to share their views to help shape a major refurbishment of a park in Stafford.

Hundreds of local people have already given feedback online, and at face-to-face meetings, to help with future proposals for Rowley Park Sports Stadium. And they can also attend a drop-in session next week (Tuesday 22) to find out more about the potential revamp.

The Borough Council has visited schools to find out what local children want to see - and discussed options with representatives from disability groups to ensure the play park is more inclusive with accessible facilities for young people.

The Rowley Park site is home to an artificial football pitch, running track, tennis courts and bowling green as well as children’s play area.

The initial phase of the plans will look at play equipment for toddlers and juniors, an improved multi-use games area, and potential new wheeled sports facility, as well as walking routes and picnic places. It could also include a Ninja Warrior or Parkour trail - which have been growing in popularity with young people for testing agility, strength and co-ordination.

The deadline for feedback is Sunday 27 July and everyone can do that at www.staffordbc.gov.uk/rowley. But people can also come to a drop-in session between 6pm and 8pm on Tuesday 22 July at the main building in the park where council officers will be on hand to answer questions.

Money that developers provide to local authorities to deliver benefits to the community, as part of house building or other developments in the area, will be used to fund the project.

A masterplan will be drawn up for the whole of the Rowley Park area - with the potential for further improvements to the site when more funding is available.

Joss Presland, Head of Operations at the Borough Council, said: “The views of local people, families, youngsters and everyone who uses this popular area will be important in helping us shape our vision for the park.

“So, I would encourage anyone who has not had a say to come along to the drop-in session next week or take part in our online consultation before it closes.”

The council has earmarked initial work to get underway in 2026.
