We are currently reviewing all Council Tax accounts where our records show that there is a sole resident aged 18 or over and a 25% Single Person Discount has been applied.
This is to determine if you are still the sole person liable to pay Council Tax and if you will continue to be entitled to the 25% Single Person Discount.
We know most people are claiming this discount correctly. However, sometimes people forget to tell us when the number of adults living in a property changes.
This may be because:
- a new partner has moved in
- a new tenant or lodger has moved in
- a relative has moved in
- a child has turned 18
The quickest way to complete your Single Person Discount review is by completing the Single Person Discount Review Form 2026/27 online.
We have a legal duty to protect the public purse. Carrying out regular reviews helps us to do this, ensuring that essential services receive the maximum amount of support from council taxpayers.
The closing date for this review is 24 April 2026.
If you do not respond
If you are asked to complete the review and fail to do so, the discount may be removed from your account and we may impose a penalty of £70, which would be added to your account.
