The one-off annual payment for 2021 is £36 per brown bin and this covers the period 1 January – 31 December 2021. You can sign up and make your payment to the service at any time during the year if you would like to have your garden waste collected in 2021. A garden waste permit will be posted to you to attach to your brown bin.
Your brown bin will be collected on the same day as your blue bin all year round, weather permitting.

What can I put in my brown bin?
Please check our webpage Recycling and Waste - Know Your Bins for the correct materials to put in your brown bin. Please make sure your brown bin is out for collection by 7am on your collection day.
Can I have more than one brown bin?
If you would like to arrange a permit/arrange delivery of an additional brown bin, and have already subscribed to the service for your initial brown bin, please call our Contact Centre on 01785 619402 rather than complete the online form to ensure that this additional information is logged correctly against your address.
I’ve just signed up, why can’t my brown bin be emptied straight away?
As per the Terms and Conditions, your brown bin service will start on the first scheduled collection day (the same day as your blue bin and bag) that occurs after the initial five working days following sign up.
This five day period is to allow for checks and integration to take place, there could be up to a further five days before the permit is delivered but your information will be on the crew's computer system and they will empty your bin whilst you wait for the permit to arrive.
What can I do with my garden waste if I don’t use the brown bin?
Home Compost – we support a reduced cost home composting scheme, details of which can be found at www.getcomposting.com
Household Waste Recycling Centres – garden waste can be taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centres at St Albans Road, Stafford or Beacon Road, Stone.
Why are you introducing a charge for garden waste?
Councils are not required by law to provide garden waste collections. Introducing a charge enables the service to be financially self sufficient and ensures that we can continue to provide the service rather than it being stopped.
Stafford Borough Council receives no income from the sale of the compost by the composting facility.
Will I get a reduction in my Council Tax if I don’t sign up to the new service?
No. Council Tax goes towards paying for a wide range of services provided by the Borough Council, County Council, Police, Fire and Parish Council services.
How will the collection crews know who has paid?
You will be issued with a permit to stick to your bin to show you have paid. The information is also on the in-cab computer on the collection vehicle.
Can I have more than one brown bin?
Yes, you can sign up for multiple bins. Each brown bin at your property will be charged at £36 per bin for 2021. If you require an additional bin to be delivered to your property there is a one off delivery charge of £25 in addition to the annual charge.
No the annual charge is required to be paid in full and covers the period 1 January- 31 December 2021.
I only want the collection for six months, is that ok?
Payment is for the full 12 month period and there are no pro rata discounts or refunds given.
Can I share a bin with a neighbour?
Yes, you can share the cost of the brown bin with a neighbour. However, you will need to decide who will be responsible for putting the bin out to avoid a missed collection.
I don’t want the service, what do I do with my brown bin?
You can keep the brown bin for use around the garden or garage. We are considering ways for unwanted brown bins to be collected but this won’t be possible in the first nine months.
If we remove an unwanted garden waste bin at the resident’s request, and the resident subsequently wants to subscribe there will be a one off delivery charge of £25 in addition to the subscription charge.
If you have requested a password reset but have not received an email this is because either:

- The account is Inactive (not been used for some months)
