Planning decisions must take account of design. Designingand shaping towns and the countryside means considering the balance ofdifferent types of development, the character of local places and the nurturingof place.

The design of our towns and villages is an importantconsideration, from the quantity and balance of what types of developmentshould be allowed, to the suitable styles of architecture that complement theexisting area.

The Council encourages good design, as defined in the UrbanDesign Compendium.
